SPEEDWORKS Motorsport will renew their bid for a first podium in the British Touring Car Championship when the series resumes at Oulton Park this weekend.

Tom Ingram pilots the Northwich outfit’s Toyota Avensis, buoyed by a brace of top 10 results during a testing weekend at Thruxton last time out.

“It’s our local circuit, so we’re particularly keen to perform well,” said team principal Christian Dick.

“We know there’s potential inside our car we’re yet to unlock, so hopefully we can take another step towards that elusive first top-three finish.”

Ingram lines up on a grid of close to 30 machines for three races on Sunday, when the UK’s premier car racing series is likely to attract one of the biggest crowds of the season.

The competition will be stiff; in nine previous races this term, six different winners have taken to the podium’s top step.

Meanwhile the top five in the drivers’ standings are covered by only 15 points.

Dick has tasked Ingram with qualifying higher up the field after the 23-year-old started from the grid’s ninth row in Hampshire.

“We need to make sure we’re not creating undue work for ourselves by qualifying too far back,” he said.

“If we had started the first race [at Thruxton] inside the top 10 like we should have done, we would likely have been looking at a different set of results.”

Ingram tested Speedworks’ Toyota Avensis at Donington Park on Thursday.
