AMELIA Pettitt was the fastest woman in the field during Sunday’s Air Products 10K in Crewe, lowering her personal best by close to two minutes.

The Vale Royal Athletics Club star, who represented England at the Antrim Cross Country International last month, timed 36:12 to classify 23rd overall.

Clubmate Sophie Smith clocked 39:02 on her race debut over the distance, while another first-timer Sophia Rees crossed the line in 46:08.

Vale Royal’s Stuart Doyle, battling an injury, finished fifth overall – and first veteran – in 33:26.

Gary Weedall, in 39:45, edged Dave Haines (39:58) following a great battle to finish as second and third male counters after posting their fastest times for four and seven years respectively.

There were personal bests too for Chris Beard and Euan Dunbar, timing 42:26 and 42:44 respectively to finish just outside the top 100.

Colin Rathbone came in next in 45:52, while Richard Pettitt completed Vale Royal’s contingent in 51:39.

Carole Williams was 17 seconds adrift of a lifetime best, reaching the finish in 54:39.
