Winnington Park 3 Alderley Edge 2

WINNINGTON Park head into the off-season knowing their future is in safe hands after a number of youngsters impressed in a win over Alderley Edge.

A victory sees them finish the season in eighth place.

With several regulars missing the hosts fielded an attacking 3-4-3 formation, with a youthful forwards line giving the Alderley defence the run around.

But it was the visitors that took an early lead after a loose pass by a Park defender.

Winnington continued to dominate with Sam Turley and Danny Hancock controlling the midfield. Pete Evans had two great chances from penalty corners but failed to find the net.

However, Mike Dodd equalised before half time when his shot from an acute angle found the net.

Park continued to press high up the pitch and took the lead through a powerful shot from Danny Hilton. They quickly doubled their lead when captain Evans converted a penalty stroke after a shot hit an opponent’s foot on the line.

Edge did find a lifeline with five minutes to go, but Park’s young side held on to finish the season on a high.

A LACK of clinical finishing saw Park suffer defeat at Alderley Edge.

Missing key defensive players and their leading goal scorer, the visitors struggled for long spells.

However, they kept level thanks to Jane Turley, taking on a defensive role, and keeper Karen Smith.

Park’s only goal came from Sarah Kinder, her first of the season, which means they are guaranteed to finish in fourth spot.

They visit Bowdon fourths on Saturday, 3pm.

PARK knew they were safe from relegation before this six-goal thriller at Bowdon.

They took a two goal lead, too, thanks to strikes from Emma Taylor and Di Fielding.

But Bowdon quickly counter attacked and brought the score level.

Park scored a further goal via Fielding’s second, but fourth-placed Bowdon again responded with an equaliser.

Park enjoy a home fixture in their final outing of the season, with Oxton’s seconds visiting Moss Farm for a 12.30pm push back on Saturday.
