Winnington Park 3-0 Northern

WINNINGTON Park swapped places in the table with their opponents after avenging a defeat in the reverse fixture in September.

They climb to eighth place in North League Division Two West as a reward, with a trip to back-markers Stockport Bramhall to follow this weekend.

Their guests enjoyed the best of the opening exchanges at Moss Farm on Saturday, but it was Park who took the lead after 12 minutes when skipper Pete Evans fired low into the net with power from the top of the circle.

Winnington doubled their advantage midway through the opening period when Mike Dodd was upended by Northern’s goalkeeper.

Evans stepped up to convert the resulting penalty stroke.

The home team capped a fine first-half display by scoring again, this time when Sam Turley converted Dan Hilton’s assist.

Winnington protected their advantage in the second period, thanks in part to net-minder John-Paul Dodd making a string of fine saves.

Meanwhile at the other end, Hilton and Jack Smith both went close to scoring.

Neither of Winnington Park Ladies’ teams played in the Cheshire League at the weekend following the postponement of their scheduled fixtures.

The first team are due at Macclesfield this Saturday, push back 2.30pm, before hosting Sale seconds in a rearranged Division One encounter the following day.
