TESSA McCormick will race for England in a forthcoming international meeting in Spain.

McCormick was part of a Vale Royal Athletics Club junior women’s team that scooped a silver medal at the English National Cross Country Relays Championship at Berry Hill in Mansfield at the weekend. She ran the eighth fastest leg of the day to secure selection for an England team travelling to Burgos on Sunday, November 16.

Along with clubmate Elliot Bowker, who was already selected for the junior men’s team, the pair will compete in the opening meet of this winter’s IAAF Cross Country Permit series.

McCormick was joined by Katie Gerrard and Kate Moulds in the team that picked up the silver medals in Mansfield, finishing with an aggregate time of 28 minutes 32.55 seconds.

The girls’ was the standout performance of the day for Vale Royal, but their impressive finish was complemented by a host of other solid team runs.

Matt Sheen, Sam Whitehead and Elliot Bowker came home in 10th place in the men’s under 20s race in a time of 27:40.55.

In the under 17s, Josh Betteley, Jon Owen and Jacob Brown finished 12th in the under 17s boys’ event, while girls’ team Amy Hinchly, Cara Gibbons and Sophie Smith came 15th.

The club managed two other top 20 finishes, in the under 15s courtesy of Arun Dight, Harry Dexter and Ben Lee, and in the senior women thanks to Rebeccas Craigie, Kate Titlow and Kate Spilsbury.
