NORTHWICH Rowing Club juniors were victors in a dozen boat classes during Saturday’s Agecroft Head.

George Lawton was the fastest single sculler on the water, completing a 3,250m course at Salford Quays in 12:15.78 to win the under 17s boys’ prize.

Leon Langmead matched that feat among the under 18s, timing 12:32.66, while Greg Murphy dominated the under 16s category to win comfortably in 12:38.17.

The youngest winner in Northwich’s green and gold was Tom Swithenbank in an under 14s boys’ single, while there were first place finishes too for Anya George (women’s novice) and Beth Willford-Dutton (under 16s girls).

Langmead stroked an under 18s quad to victory in 10:41.63 with Lawton, Harry Blake and Sam Hart.

They were followed by Murphy, along with George Crouchley, Matt Radford and Rhys Coffey in an under 16s crew that timed 11:16.38.

The under 17s boys’ quartet of Josh Almond, Chris Malley, Matt Roberts and Jack Koch took the honours in their category.

Northwich’s under 15s girls’ coxed quad of Rachel Cooney, Fiona Roberts, Katherine Schofield, Emma Pullan and cox Saffron Coppock pipped neighbours Grange School by little more than a second to top the timesheet in 14:24.21.

Murphy and Lawton claimed a third victory of the afternoon in an under 17s double, timing 11:29.27, while Langmead and Blake did the same to win the under 18s title.

“It looks like we’ve carried the momentum from last season into this one,” said Northwich club captain Rachel Hooper.

“We’ve started on a high, and I’m confident it can continue.”

Grange School Rowing Club recorded two wins, in both a men’s and women’s novice eight.
