DAVE Fearon was fastest of Weaver Valley Cycling Club’s five-strong contingent during Manchester District Time Trial Association’s 100 on Sunday.

He produced a fast time of 4:13.12 to complete a course amended by roadworks, finishing ninth overall.

Newcomer Ian Young timed 4:29.22, with Jim Duffy next best at 4:31.38.

Alistair Stanway, with 4:32.37, and Tim Rutherford’s 4:40.31 helped Weaver Valley to third in the team standings.

Charles Taylor (South Pennine RC) took home first prize in 3:48.59 despite having to stop to repair a puncture.

Meanwhile Alan Kemp won a sprint to the line against younger riders during the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists’ Brendan Chiu Memorial Road Race at Bridgnorth in Shropshire.

The Weaver Valley man joined a six-man break up the course’s first hill, a group whittled to three by the last lap.
