JAMES Risk improved a Weaver Valley Cycling Club record for juniors during the Burton District Cycling Association 25 on Saturday. He completed a fast course, riding a fixed gear, in 53:29 to beat a previous best set by Paul Rigby more than 30 years ago.
Clubmate Dave Fearon finished one place further back in 15th, clocking 53:56 – his second quickest ride ever for the distance.
Connor Fearon and mum Caroline competed at Etwall in a race won by Brett Harwood (Terry Wright Cycles) in 50:30.
Three Weaver Valley riders entered the Macclesfield Wheelers 25, with Chris Gilbertson posting the best time of 1:01.59 to finish inside the top 25.
Steve Thomas, in 1:04.45, and Andy Wood – who clocked 1:05.33 – followed him to the finish.
Jack Green (VC St Raphael) took number one spot in 55:36.
