STUDENTS from Hartford Church of England High School were star turns during the annual Cheshire County Indoor Finals.

Their under 15s boys’ team were crowned as champions, while the under 15s girls and under 13s boys’ sides finished as runners-up in their respective age categories.

The success is a reward for the school’s support of Chance to Shine, a charity campaign to encourage more children to take up the sport.

“In cricket terms, Hartford are a great school and one that I enjoy working with,” said Cheshire Cricket Board’s Mark Greaves, who organised the competitions.

“The PE staff are keen, and the extra-curricular sessions have attracted both both boys and girls which shows just how popular cricket has become there.”

Hartford’s under 15s boys were the best of seven teams at Shavington High School, beating Brine Leas by eight runs.

The under 15s girls had to settle for second after being pipped by Prenton, while Hartford’s under 13s boys finished as runners-up to Brine Leas.

Weaverham High School’s under 13s girls claimed second spot too, behind winners Bramhall.
