JAMES Risk has bagged his season’s first win as a junior.

Riding for Weaver Valley Cycling Club, he defied a keen cross wind on the Twemlow to Chelford return course to finish joint first in week two of the Manchester and District Time Trials Association 10 series.

Increasing his fixed gear ratio to 94 inches was clearly a good decision as he scorched to a time of 22:14, equalling the achievement of former Northwich rider Ben McIntosh who had beaten Risk by 39 seconds a week earlier.

Both lie joint third in the series.

Steve Thomas clocked 25:05 and William Campbell 25:56.

In week one’s event, Risk was the first rider back in yellow and blue colours as he finished second junior to McIntosh. Connor Fearon timed 26:10 as sixth junior.

Caroline Fearon, despite still recovering from a skiing injury, was fourth fastest woman with 29:50.

Steve Thomas (25:06), Jim Duffy (25:39) and Andy Wood (26:19) on a new bike were behind race winner Nigel Haigh (21:38).
