LYMM have called off their title showdown with Northwich on Saturday.
The North One West promotion favourites had hoped to avenge their only defeat of the season so far when Blacks travelled to Crouchley Lane this weekend.
But the weather has won instead.
“The grounds committee has been left with no alternative but to declare the Beechwood pitch unfit for the [Northwich] game,” said groundsman Jim Knowles.
“It’s a real shame.”
The two must now fix a date for later in the season.
It leaves Northwich facing the real prospect of a fixtures pile-up as it will be more than a month since their previous outing by the time they run out against New Brighton at Moss Farm next week.
Their last match was back on December 5, when they scored a seventh successive league win in a 10-9 success at home to Broughton Park.
Matches against Leigh and Liverpool St Helens were postponed before Christmas.
“I’ve got mixed feelings [about the latest cancellation],” said Northwich chairman Sam Naylor.
“There’s a chance the season may be extended to we can fit in all of our matches, but if it’s not then we might be looking at evening games instead.
“However I was worried about the match fitness of some of our players going into such a big contest having not had any action for so long.”
Lymm’s victory at New Brighton last weekend – their 11th successive win in North One West – extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points.
Northwich, two games worse off, are second.
