Manchester Medics 7 Northwich 40

NORTHWICH continued where they left off last week, rising to third place in the table after another resounding bonus-point victory.

Blacks, beaten by the Medics at Moss Farm in October, were in no mood for a repeat.

They scored three tries in each half of a one-sided contest, taking the lead after two minutes when winger Sam Jones won a foot race to a ball kicked forward by Sione Tangi.

Richard Dale kicked the first of five conversions.

Manchester, stubborn opposition for Winnington Park seven days earlier, were similarly durable again.

Their guests did not score again until the 38th minute, when Tangi broke through the defence to reward patient approach play.

Dale added the extras.

They went further ahead in stoppage time after Sam Naylor made a decisive movement, passing to scrum half Michael Gallimore who in turn sent in Jack Watts for a score out wide.

Dale was on target once more, making it 21-0 at the interval.

Northwich added to their advantage early in the second period, opting for a lineout after winning a penalty.

After successfully securing possession, Tangi peeled from the maul to power over the line for a second time.

Dale’s conversion made sure of a bonus point.

Another try followed shortly afterwards when John Harrison pinched the ball at a Medics lineout.

It was moved wide swiftly, prompting Liam Gavin to touch down after evading would-be tacklers.

Medics refused to relent, earning a converted score their endeavour deserved with eight minutes left.

They applied sustained pressure to Blacks’ defensive line, twice being held up before eventually finding a way through.

Fittingly, the last word belonged to Northwich.

After winning a turnover ball, Naylor fed Gallimore who drove for the line.

When possession was recycled, Jones provided Naylor with a neat pass for the player coach to touch down.
