Oulton Park set for celebration of British motorsport on Bank Holiday Monday

REIGNING champion Simon Shaw is back on track at his home circuit for the third round of the Dunlop Sport Maxx Production Cup on Monday.

The Dutton driver will be behind the wheel of EJM Preparation’s BMW 330d at Oulton Park.

“It’s great to be back,” he said this week.

“After winning the title last year I turned my focus onto the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) for 2010, but I’ll enjoy getting out on the grid my local track.”

He still plans to race AmD Technik’s VW Golf, making its debut in BTCC this year, at some point this season.

For now he will help out a team for whom he raced when he made his debut in the Sport Maxx Cup in its inaugural season in 2007.

Then he took Class B title honours in a Renault Clio Sport.

A runner up in the championship the following year, he took the drivers’ title last time out in an AmD SEAT Leon Cupra after scoring points in every race.

“It’s great to have Simon back in one of our cars,” said EJM’s team principal Ed James.

“Oulton Park is his local circuit and he has spent a bit of time coaching our young driver Dan Malone around there so I’m confident we can be very competitive this weekend.”

Shaw will be part of three 20-minutes race as the Dunlop Sport Maxx Production Cup forms part of the Great and British Festival at the Little Budworth circuit on Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday.

Headlining is the Radical Cup, featuring powerful Le Mans-style sports cars.

Also on track are drivers in the Mini Challenge, plus the Citroen 2CV Championship and the latest rounds of the NW Sports Saloons championship.

Spectators heading to Oulton Park this weekend can also claim a free programme at the BTCC meeting seven days later if they keep hold of their ticket stubs.

Admission for adults is £12 on race day, while accompanied U12s enter free.
