Supersport 600: Behan in confident mood at Cadwell

CONNOR Behan hopes to continue his improvement in the Metzeler Superstock 600 National Championship when the series heads to Cadwell Park this weekend.

The Northwich rider was denied a chance to shine in front of his home crowd earlier this month when a red flag stopped the race on the first lap.

“It was a huge disappointment,” he said.

“I felt good going on to the grid so not being able to race did put a downer on the weekend.”

He had put his Bristol Kawasaki-prepared machine on the second row of the grid at Oulton Park – his best qualifying result of the season to date – after setting the eighth fastest time.

The 18-year-old slid a couple of places after the first corner before a collision between two rival riders forced the race to be abandoned.

Series organisers say the qualifying positions at Oulton Park will stand when the race is re-run later in the season.

He added: “I had an excellent weekend before that.

“There were one or two problems at first in free practice but once those were sorted I had two good qualifying sessions.

“Like at the last meeting my times continued to get faster every time I went out on track so I’m hoping to continue making progress at Cadwell.”

Behan was 14th fastest in this morning’s free practice for Qualifying Group A, setting a fastest lap of 1:36.755.

John Simpson was fastest on his Triumph, completing a circuit in 1:32.853.

The riders are back out on track for the first qualifying session later today, Friday.

Sunday’s race, to be screened live on British Eurosport, is scheduled to start at 1.15pm.
