MARK Wakefield bounced back after a frustrating debut to score a top ten finish in the second round of the Manchester and Buxton Kart Club’s Minimax championship.

The Weaverham High School pupil finished eighth in Sunday’s final at Wigan’s Three Sisters circuit, following on from a season-best fourth position in the second heat.

“He struggled a bit to begin with as this was his first meeting in dry conditions,” said dad Nigel.

“But he’s enjoying the challenge and that’s the most important thing.”

Wakefield, 12, moves up to fifth place in the early season drivers’ standings as a result in his debut campaign racing a faster cart after winning the club’s Cadet championship last year.
