DEFENDING champion Matthew Robinson suffered a first final defeat of the season in the Cheshire Kart Racing Club’s Senior Rotax Max class on Sunday.
The former Sir John Deane’s College student was pipped to the line at Hooton Park by Luke Hughes, a contender in the Super One British Championship, with only three thousandths of a second between them.
A second-place finish does no harm to the teenager’s title hopes, for his lead is worth 47 points with three rounds of the campaign left.
The Rudheath-based racer had won a dozen consecutive category finals before Hughes ended his run.
