PAUL Moore has reminded his players they control Northwich Victoria’s destiny on the field in the remaining games this season.

Last weekend’s success at Gresley was Vics’ first in the Northern Premier League since Bonfire Night, ending a sequence of a dozen matches without a win.

It leaves them four points adrift of a position of safety ahead of tomorrow’s home date with Lincoln United.

They also have two games in hand on Rugby and Loughborough, the teams directly above them.

“It’s in our hands whether we climb from the relegation zone,” said Moore.

“But everybody is pulling together, and we can only try our best and see if that’s enough.

“Our performance [at Gresley] was good on a bad surface, and we’ll play better football.

“However at this stage, points are what matter.”

A first maximum haul, after five previous attempts to capture one, allowed the former Colwyn Bay boss to celebrate a first league victory since replacing Adam Lakeland in the dugout before Christmas.

And his side, boosted by the return from a long-term injury of attacker Godwin Abadaki, ran out worthy winners too thanks to a goal in each half from John Bennett and Dave Short – the latter from a penalty.

Newcomer Niall Sultan, a striker, is likely to make his debut against the Whites after completing a move from Chadderton.

Drew Matthews is available again too.

Moore told the Guardian he hopes to have another signing, also a forward, registered in time to face leaders Shaw Lane in midweek.

He added: “The group are motivated, and there is a good spirit now.

“It’s taken time to reach get that in going, but we feel we can push on from here.”

Lincoln return to Northwich seven days after holding Witton, Vics’ landlords, to a goalless draw.

They are unbeaten in their past five Division One South matches.

However their hosts have kept clean sheets in each of their past three, and have not conceded a goal in almost five hours of match-play.
