NORTHWICH Victoria will feature in Monday’s FA Cup first-round draw after shutting out higher-ranked Chorley.

They replay on Tuesday at Victory Park, kick off 7.45pm.

The Magpies, from Vanarama National League North, went closest to scoring inside five minutes when Josh Hine headed Darren Stephenson’s cross against an upright.

They did not get a better chance to defeat Jim Gannon’s men, who have already beaten teams from a level above twice in this season’s competition.

In a first half of few openings, former Vics’ front man James Dean collided with goalkeeper Mason Springthorpe as the pair leapt to meet Max Cartwright’s cross.

The hosts’ custodian came off worse, and was replaced by Dane Smith at the interval after suffering a cut to his head.

After the break, Jimmy Ball shot too close to Chorley net-minder Sam Ashton, then Iain Howard’s flicked attempt was narrowly off-target from Jordan Williams’ assist.

At the other end, Chris Doyle’s header prompted Smith to save smartly.

He repeated the trick on 68 minutes when Jake Cottrell met Cartwright’s set piece with a powerful header.

The full back halted substitute Josh Amis’ forward progress at the other end, while Howard’s drive from distance did not trouble Ashton with time running out.
