BARNTON will feel sick at a mere mention of Merseyside.

The Villagers have shipped five goals in successive visits in the space of a week, leaving them still without a win in the North West Counties League’s top-flight this season.

They were in the contest for an hour, and trailed only to Michael Boyle’s early opener.

Captain Chris Smith went close for Steve Lloyd’s men before he teed up Jason McShane for an attempt that was deflected to safety by a defender.

The Reds were denied a second goal on the stroke of half-time after a counter, only for goalkeeper Chris Davies to deny them.

Barnton were left cursing their luck after the interval when Smith’s effort struck the crossbar before Daniel Boden doubled the home team’s lead on 67 minutes.

They took control from that moment on.

Substitute Stephen Milne claimed a stylish third, then Boden doubled his personal tally for the afternoon after skipping around Davies.

A fifth goal followed in added time when another replacement, Adam Weston, found the net from the edge of the penalty area.

“We can’t make excuses – it simply wasn’t good enough,” rued Barnton boss Steve Lloyd afterwards.

They return to action on Wednesday when Congleton visit Townfield.
