Barnton 1 Irlam 0

BARNTON left it late to take all three points against Irlam at Townfield on Saturday.

Kev Towey's goal, with four minutes left, proved enough to get Leon Knight’s side back on track after they had slipped to a 1-0 loss against Hanley Town in midweek.

Colin Quirk and Rob Kinsella both failed to hit the target after the break, while Towey slipped as he shaped to strike on goal.

However the front man made no mistake after meeting Connor Tagoe's pass, dinking a smart finish over the visitors' goalkeeper and in off the far post.

The Villagers had to cut short their celebrations when the referee allowed the visitors to kick off, but protected their lead for the game's remainder.

"We never got into our stride offensively but we kept going and kept plugging away,” said assistant manager Andy Burgess.

“We've got to be better with the ball; to be more inventive and more creative.”
