PROMOTION hopefuls Poynton fought back from two goals down at the break to draw their Division Two opener at home to newcomers Warrington Town reserves.

Andy Simpson and Danny Makin hit the net for the hosts.

Four different players - Mike Blundell, Josh Lane, Ryan Smith and Liam Collins – were on target for Sandbach United as they started with a comfortable success at Golborne Sports.

Malpas were the section’s biggest scorers on Saturday though, Alex Hughes claiming four of their eight goals against guests Penlake.

Elsewhere Lostock Gralam, relegated from Division One, lost at home to Moore United.

Scott Taylor was first to a loose ball after Kyle Gallagher’s header had rebounded off the crossbar, although the latter did get on the score-sheet after half time in a 2-0 win.

Tony Scott’s brace, plus goals from Ryan Barnhill and James Higgins secured Egerton’s first win of the season as they saw off Maine Road reserves.

Debutants Barnton Wanderers were indebted to Josh Maddock’s equaliser as they claimed a point from Grappenhall Sports, who had taken the lead through Matt Ball.

There were wins too for Congleton Vale, who overturned an interval deficit to beat Daten, and 10-man newcomers Sale Town who edged a nine-goal thriller at home to Tarporley Victoria.

Gary Wood proved to be their hero, hitting a hat-trick, while Matthew Darlington replied with a double for the visitors.
