JB Parker Challenge Cup holders Eagle Sports cruise through at the expense of newcomers Crewe

HOLDERS Eagle cruised to an emphatic win as they started the defence of their title in style, writes Kat Davey .
Nathan Williams’ double started a six-goals mauling of top tier newcomers Crewe, with further strikes from Ged McAllister, Owen Ellis, Danny Burthem and newcomer Ste Cross sealing a comfortable success.
Fast-starters in the league, Knutsford transferred their form to a knockout competition with second half efforts from Tom Schofield and Dean Warburton accounting for Gamesley.
Without a win since the season’s opening week, Lostock Gralam celebrated a change in fortune when they defeated Denton Town.
Greenalls let slip a two-goals advantage, given to them by scores from Lee Deakin and Ben Slater, against Linotype to crash out after a thriller.
Vinnie Braine, Jonathan Matthews and Sam Pollard were on target in the visitors’ impressive recovery.
Billinge were another to forget their league toils, winning 3-2 at Styal, while Whaley Bridge got the better of Grappenhall thanks to Lee Morris’ double.
Rylands reached the last eight thanks to Scott Bakkor’s brace against Pilkington, the first after timing his run to perfection.
He added a second soon afterwards from Pat Naughton’s assist, although Graeme Green halved Pilks’ arrears following a mistake by goalkeeper Stephen Smith.
Bakkor turned provider to settle the outcome, Josh Green applying the finish.
