Champions Knutsford start Cheshire League season with a win against Denton Town

CHAMPIONS Knutsford started the defence of their Division One title with a comfortable win against Denton Town, writes Kat Davey .

Scott Beattie gave Paul Schofield’s men the lead after a rusty first half from Reds, but Liam Myers opened his account for the campaign early in the second.

Mike Cartner chipped a fine third to settle the outcome late on.

Lostock Gralam started life under new management team Phil Parkinson and Ross Speight with a single-goal success at Grappenhall Sports .

Another new face in the dugout, Middlewich Town’s Adam Morris, celebrated a winning start at Garswood United where Sam O’Sullivan and Craig Millington scored for the Witches.

Top tier newcomers Whaley Bridge put four goals without reply past fellow promoted team Crewe , Mickey Ryan’s quickfire double after Damian Morrison’s first half effort ending the visitors’ challenge.

George Burgess’ late strike added gloss.

Elsewhere Billinge made safe maximum points against Styal before half time, Danny Murphy, Chris Tunstall and Shaun Abbott scoring their goals in a 3-0 success.

Ex-Rylands regular Mike Hickman helped Eagle Sports to defeat his former club when he headed in Lee Boardman’s centre to settle a close encounter.

Lee Deakin and Ben Slater were on target for Greenalls PSO in a 2-1 success at 10-man Linotype , while Pilkington shared the spoils with Gamesley .
