Eagle Sports close gap to title rivals Pilkington after winning at Club AZ

EAGLE Sports moved to within seven points of long-time Division One leaders Pilkington after beating reigning champions Club AZ at the weekend, writes Rob Wood.

Elsewhere Styal climbed to fourth position after edging out Garswood United by a single goal to end a four-matches sequence without a win.

Greenalls PSO leapfrog Middlewich Town, who were on cup duty, too despite having to settle for a point from a goalless draw with Billinge.

There were wins too for midtable Gamesley, at the expense of inconsistent Knutsford, and Golborne Sports at home to fellow strugglers Rylands.

In Division Two Denton Town take over top spot after title rivals Grappenhall Sports surprisingly dropped points away to Daten.

Denton edged out Malpas by a single goal.

Crewe FC warmed up for this week’s Division Two cup final with a comfortable success at home to Congleton Town reserves, while their opponents in midweek Whitchurch Alport surprisingly lost at home to wooden spoonists Maine Road reserves.

Those two teams meet at Northwich Victoria’s Victoria Stadium home on Wednesday, kick off 7.45pm.

In the weekend’s other encounter, Ashley Chesters and James Anderson were on target for Warrington-based Moore United in a 2-0 win at Runcorn Town reserves.
