Mid Cheshire duo prepare for important cup clashes this weekend

WINSFORD Ladies’ big day was ruined by the weather at the weekend when they were due to play Crewe Alexandra in the quarter final.

Heavy snowfall on Saturday night left holders last year’s runners-up with no other option but to postpone the last eight clash for seven days.

The two teams will try again this Sunday, kick off 2pm.

Tony Lee’s team make the short trip to the Cumberland Arena still in search of their first win of 2010 after failing to win any of their three matches to date since the turn of the year.

The same fate befell Northwich Vixens’ trip to holders Tranmere Rovers for a match manager Fred Burgess believes is the biggest in their history.

“We’ll find out how good we are,” he said.

“It will be a great experience for the girls to test themselves against good players. But we’re not going there to make up the numbers; we want to spring a surprise.”
