WOODFORD Leisure keeper Darren Roe was among the scorers as his side went goal crazy in the first round of the Mid-Cheshire FA District Sunday Cup, writes Mike Alcock.

His huge kick forward outfoxed his opposite number in the Barn Owl goal to cap an easy 9-2 win for the Winsford-based side.

Stephen Hughes netted four times and Sam Didsbury scored a hat-trick, while Peter Harrison was also on target in their success.

There was a surprise elsewhere though as Premier Division outfit Rifleman lost by the odd goal in five against Division Two high fliers Blue Barrel.

Gladstone won 4-3 at Cuddington in a thrilling match illuminated by Adam Lightfoot’s two stunning strikes from distance.

There were big wins too for Plough, Pockets and St Joseph’s at the expense of Bull’s Head, Saxons and Broadhurst respectively.

In the day’s only Premier Division encounter, Gary Bryning scored the only goal of the game to earn champions Rudheath three hard-earned points at Coachman – their fifth successive victory.
