DAVENHAM Athletic ended a wait of almost half a century to recapture the Mid-Cheshire District FA Sunday Cup thanks after Craig Smith scored a hat-trick.
They could not be separated from opponents Brighton Belle, playing in the final for the first time, inside 90 minutes at Barnton’s Townfield Lane home.
Smith set them on course to a 4-1 victory, while Aaran Davies netted the other goal to ensure the trophy returned to the village for the first time since 1970.
Back-to-back wins for Pockets, during which they have scored 31 goals, have sent them to the top of the Mid Cheshire Sunday League’s Premier Division table.
George & Dragon are three points further back after they thrashed Winsford Over 3.
