BARNTON Wanderers landed another blow in a fight for the Crewe and District League title when they edged Winsford Saxons.

Craig Smith’s goal was enough to separate the Premier Division leaders from the defending champions, avenging a defeat in the AJ Cooke Trophy in February.

His side are eight points clear of second-placed Sandbach Curshaws, who were stunned by back-markers Winnington Avenue at Jubilee Field.

Paul Richardson scored twice as the home team ended a wait to win a first game of the season in the top-flight, while Leon Hewitt and Scott Murray netted too in an emphatic 4-1 victory.

Elsewhere goals from Tim Fittes and Max Brown secured for Clock Tower a 2-0 win against neighbours Winnington Avenue 1994.

On Monday, Saxons played out a 3-3 draw with Curshaws.

Sam Dodds and Zak Finnigan were on target for Over 3 Grange, but it proved in vain as Mary Dendy collected maximum points.

Winnington could not make it back-to-back wins, falling 3-0 to Club AZ.
