TRUE to his word, Paul Moore has announced the recruitment of three players as Northwich Victoria seek to end a five-match sequence without a win.

Goalkeeper Matthew Holmes and Chris Lawton, an experienced defender, have both switched from North West Counties League rivals Runcorn Linnets.

Midfielder George Riley, who has found playing time at Winsford United hard to come by this term, is another to transfer in time for tomorrow’s meeting with Bootle at Townfield.

“I’ve been consistent in saying we needed time to adjust to new surroundings,” said the Vics boss.

“It’s a level we’re new to and so we’re learning as we go along.

“We lost players over the summer as well, and only started recruiting after everybody else because we were waiting for a takeover of the club to go through.

“I think we’ve made decent signings.”

Holmes is a replacement for Richie Mottram, who returned to Widnes earlier this month after starting the season with Northwich.

James Longdin filled in for last Friday’s meeting with lower-ranked Stockport Town in the FA Vase, and Vics bowed out after losing 4-3.

Lawton will initially stand in for captain Reece Lyndon, who faces a lengthy spell on the side-lines while he recovers from a thigh injury sustained last week.

And the comings and goings will not end there, according to Moore.

He is waiting for international clearance before registering two more newcomers while a third, a prolific striker, could be unveiled after the weekend.
