Why should I watch..?

Both teams are unbeaten since the start of the current campaign, and something has to give.

Vauxhall Motors, ranked two levels lower than their guests this weekend, sit fourth in the West Cheshire League’s top-flight after winning four of their six matches to date this season.

They have kept four clean-sheets in that run.

1874’s unbeaten record without losing stands at a dozen matches, and started with a 3-1 win at AFC Darwen in April.

They make a short trip across Cheshire buoyed by reaching the FA Cup second qualifying round for the first time after a 2-0 replay success against higher-ranked Mossley in midweek.

What they’ve said

“We’ll need to come down from the elation of Tuesday’s game, and organise ourselves.

“Vauxhall will try to do to us what we achieved against Mossley, and that’s why we have to prepare properly.

“As long as we go out and do the things we’re good at, then as a management team we’ll be happy.”

Wayne Goodison, 1874 Northwich co-manager

Numbers game

Discounting a game at Morpeth that did not take place, Saturday marks 1874’s 10th game in the FA Vase

The previous nine games have yielded 23 goals, including nine against Wigan Robin Park in 2014

Man to keep an eye on

Kyle Riley

The former Winsford United captain has made only two starts since a switch from Glossop North End, but may have a chance to shine if Scott McGowan isn’t risked.

Riley has had to be patient because of his teammate’s scintillating start to the season, which has so far yielded eight goals in as many starts.

1874 team news

Leading goal-scorer Scott McGowan (hamstring) is rated as a major doubt after limping out of Tuesday’s FA Cup first qualifying round replay success against Mossley.

Kyle Riley stands by.

Wide man Taylor Kennerley (knee) has been passed fit to play after suffering a knock in midweek, while Mark Jones (foot), Danny Thomas and Joe Woolley (both knee) are long-term absentees.
