CARL Macauley has received a boost after Danny Roberts was passed fit to keep goal for Witton Albion during their return date with Rugby tomorrow.

The custodian, who returned to the starting line-up for a Northern Premier League fixture following a seven-week absence during a 2-1 win at Leek on Tuesday, had complained of discomfort in his foot while kicking.

However the 27-year-old, who made his 50th appearance in Albion’s colours in the same game, can feature against opponents that stunned his teammates last weekend by scoring a stoppage-time winner.

The visitors will again be without injured full-back Matty Devine (hamstring) and front man Rob Hopley (toe), while striker Cameron Dalton has joined Bootle – challenging on three fronts at the level below – on loan for the rest of the season.

“Matty and Rob both need a bit more time,” said Macauley.

“And we’re not prepared to risk losing them for longer. They both have a massive part to play yet, and we’ll only include either when they’re fully ready.

“Cam’s case is slightly different; it’s simple, he needs playing time, and we can’t guarantee him enough of that at the moment.

“The arrangement suits both clubs; he’s done remarkably well just to be back playing again after suffering such a serious injury, and we were all made up to see him on the field against 1874 Northwich last week.”

Kyle Rowley (leg) is a doubt for Rugby after limping off at Wincham Park last Saturday.

Anthony Charles stands by, while Charlie Faulkner has resumed training after a lay-off but is not yet ready for a recall to the squad.

Kick off on Saturday is 3pm.
