AFTER being able to name only two outfield substitutes for Tuesday’s trip to AFC Rushden & Diamonds, Albion boss Carl Macauley hopes to have greater strength in numbers at Spalding.

Midfielder Prince Haywood is available again after work commitments prevented him from travelling south in midweek.

Jamie Hinchliffe and Karl Noon both missed a 2-0 victory for the same reason.

“It was a nightmare if I’m honest,” admitted Witton’s manager.

“To have only two fit guys on the bench was a worry.”

And those fears were realised in the second half when Matty Devine limped off after tweaking a hamstring.

It’s an niggle that is likely to prevent him from playing against the Tulips tomorrow.

That will likely lead to a recall for Anthony Brown, who has watched from the substitutes bench since recovering from a facial injury sustained in a goalless stalemate with Lincoln United last month.

“He fully understands that the lads who have come in have done a good job,” said Macauley.

“Everybody is fighting for a place in the team, including him.

“That doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate what he offers, and it’s true we miss his presence and leadership when he’s not on the field.”

Goalkeeper Danny Roberts (foot) remains Witton’s biggest injury doubt, although the arrival of Calvin Hare following his departure from Marine means Macauley is prepared to wait for the Stoke-based shot-stopper to make a full recovery before considering him again for selection.

Danny Reynolds has returned to parent club Telford following the conclusion of a month-long loan stay at Wincham Park.
