CARL Macauley admitted he needed time for the scale of his side’s achievement in beating Shaw Lane, the league leaders, on Tuesday to sink in.

However Witton Albion’s players, who led 3-0 by the break and protected a narrower advantage after their opponents scored twice in quick succession after the interval, will not be allowed to dwell on ending their promotion rivals’ 15-match unbeaten run.

After all, they have a job to do at Loughborough tomorrow.

“We can’t undo the immense effort we put into getting what was a massive win [against Shaw Lane],” said Macauley.

“It’s important we back it up, and the lads know that.

“They were tired towards the end on Tuesday because they’d given everything.

“It meant so much to us though; it was a huge, huge game."

Albion kick off Saturday afternoon's encounter with lowly Dynamo six points adrift of first place in the Northern Premier League’s Division One South.

However they have a game in hand on the Ducks, who had lost only once previously this season before arriving in Northwich.

And the South Yorkshire outfit were left wondering what had hit them after conceding three goals during a pulsating opening period.

They rallied, replying twice during a three-minute spell shortly after the interval, but could not conjure an equaliser to steal a share of the spoils.

Macauley said: “They looked dead and buried at half-time.

“We didn’t let up in the second half, but they scored a second after a mistake by our goalkeeper and it gave them a massive lift.

“There was still 25 minutes left, and that felt like a long time to see out the game.

“But we had guys throwing their bodies in the way of shots to make blocks, or closing down ferociously in the last minute to stop them getting another cross in.

“That’s us; we fight, and battle until the end."

Macauley is optimistic that goalkeeper Danny Roberts will be passed fit to face Loughborough.

However he has doubts over defender Anthony Brown (eye) and midfielder Paul Williams (back).
