CARL Macauley admitted his team’s performance against Bedworth had not been pretty, but hailed the impact of substitute Tolani Omotola.

The teenager front man played a part in Witton’s winning goal, nudging a ball towards Rob Hopley that Albion’s leading scorer gleefully slammed into the net.

It was enough to secure victory for the hosts.

“Tolani made a big impact,” said Macauley.

“We had a plan to put him on if we reached the final 20 minutes or so and it was still goalless.

“He has that speed, and can run in behind – that’s ideal in a flat, dour game.

“It was scrappy, and we just didn’t look like scoring.

“Tol was involved in the goal as well; he created the danger, and deserves a pat on the bank even though Rob will get the applause.

“I’m delighted to have the bonus of three points. It’s massive, and we’re happy.”

Witton stay third in the Northern Premier League’s Division One South, although second-placed Spalding are now only four points better off.

Albion still have five games in hand on the Lincolnshire-based outfit too.

“When the teams around you aren’t playing then there is an incentive to take advantage,” added Macauley.

“Shaw Lane may have watched and wondered if that was Witton at their best.

“We didn’t get down about how things were going, and kept going – that’s made the difference.”

Albion host Belper next on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm.
