IAN Street needs to find cover for key absences in defence when his 1874 Northwich side entertains Barnoldswick Town tomorrow.

Mark Jones serves a one-match ban as punishment for his dismissal in a 1-0 win at home to Hanley a fortnight ago, while Danny Thomas is having surgery on a facial injury sustained in the same game.

He is likely to be missing for the rest of the season.

Craig Farnworth, who played in a friendly against Altrincham’s reserves last week, has been recalled to the squad and will probably start alongside Ryan Mitchell in the middle of 1874’s backline.

Farnworth has not featured since an FA Cup replay defeat against Colne back in August.

Street has been given a boost too by Joe Woolley’s return to fitness following a hamstring injury, and the wide man played a starring role for Knutsford in a Cheshire League success against Congleton Vale as part of his recovery.

Fellow winger Ryan Jackson remains a long-term injury absentee, while Jack Woolley has departed to join neighbours Barnton.

That vacancy in Northwich’s squad will be filled by Joel Douglas, a forward who has impressed during a brief spell with North West Counties League Premier Division rivals Cammell Laird.

1874 hope to complete his registration in time for tomorrow's game.

If selected, Lee Jones will make his 50th appearance for the club.
