A WITTON Albion side featuring 10 changes to one that started on Saturday proved no match for Glossop in the Integro League Cup last night.

Midfielder Paul Williams was the only player to start that had played from the first minute against Kettering, and he was withdrawn at the interval.

The hosts, who included the familiar faces of Matthew Cooper and Sam Barnes, took the lead after six minutes when Karl Jones applied the finishing touch to a slick move.

Max Leonard then scored twice inside a five-minute spell before the break for the hosts.

The pattern did not change after the interval, although goalkeeper Dominic Garner parried Mark Reed’s spot kick after Jones had been felled inside the penalty area.

Jamie Rainford, another former Witton player, was introduced to Glossop’s attack and quickly added his name to the scoresheet after breaking the offside trap.

Leonard then completed a personal treble after converting penalty awarded by referee Luke Watson following a foul on Rainford.

The visitors played for the final 20 minutes with 10 men after Karl Noon was forced to leave the field after suffering an injury.

Both outfield substitutes, Stephen Vakassakis and Tom Hughes, had been introduced at half-time.

Rainford added gloss when he netted a sixth Glossop goal with another smart finish.
