1874 Northwich have responded in exactly the way they will have wanted following a disappointing home defeat against AFC Liverpool.
A 2-0 success against Abbey Hey last weekend is their third in a row in all competitions since, although Atherton Collieries took over top spot in the North West Counties League’s Premier Division – if only on goal difference – following a draw with Nelson in midweek.
West Didsbury sit sixth in the standings after a 3-2 victory at Ashton Athletic in midweek, putting behind them back-to-back defeats in the Premier Division.
They have two games in hand on 1874, eight points better off, so a win would be a boost in their attempt to close a gap to the top five.
Numbers game
1874 Northwich have won all six previous meetings with West Didsbury in league and cup, including a 4-1 success when the teams met at St Luke’s Barton Stadium last month.
However Ian Street’s side scored three times in the last 10 minutes to secure maximum points.
Three of West’s four league defeats this season have been on their own pitch; against Bootle, Squires Gate and Irlam.
Steve Settle’s men have also bowed out of the FA Cup and Macron Cup after starting with home advantage.
Man to keep an eye on
Stuart Wellstead
Has filled in at full back in Paul Connor’s absence, which has restricted his natural inclination to join the attack.
The 31-year-old is one of the most versatile players in the squad, though, and won’t be beaten for speed on the right of 1874’s defence.
1874 team news
Neil Chappell is available again for selection after completing a four-match ban, while Sam Hind returns too after missing last Saturday’s win against Abbey Hey.
Paul Connor (ankle) and Ryan Jackson (knee) both continue to be ruled out by injuries.
