1874 NORTHWICH introduced their summer signings to supporters at the weekend, and manager Ian Street has opted for title-winning know-how.

Three newcomers – striker Tom Bailey, midfielder Eddie Moran and left back Matt Russell – were regulars in Glossop North End’s side that finished first in the North West Counties League top flight the season before last.

Greg Hall, goalkeeper in a team that also reached the FA Vase final at Wembley, is already at Barton Stadium.

Bailey, who scored 27 goals during that campaign after hitting the net the same number of occasions the previous term, will be tasked with replacing Matthew Beadle following his switch to last year’s champions Colne.

Scott McGowan, on target 21 times for Congleton Town last season, will share that burden.

Further firepower arrives in the form of Sam Hind, who Glossop lent to Abbey Hey last year.

Like Bailey, he appears in the top six of the Hillmen’s all-time leading scorers’ table with 78 goals.

Further back, central defender Chris Middleton arrives from higher-ranked Radcliffe.

He strengthens a back-line that shipped more than 60 goals last time out, when 1874 finished fourth in the standings.

Midfield duo Rick Bailey and Arron Kirk, who finished last term at Congleton and Bacup respectively, return to the club for second spells.

Eddie Walker, recommended to 1874 by former utility man Ryan Stewart after impressing during a brief spell with Unicorn Athletic in the Cheshire League’s third tier, is part of the group that has reported for pre-season too.

The list is completed, for now at least, by midfielder Mark Jones.

A former Radcliffe and Nantwich captain, who also played for Witton Albion a decade ago, is the brother of ex-1874 man Lee.

He has not played since leaving the Dabbers last year, but has told Street he is ready now to return to non-league football after time away.

As well as Beadle, attacker Tyler Edwards has also departed this summer, joining Northwich Victoria.

Mike Brandon has retired, while Steve McNichol is at Whitchurch.
