WITTON Albion registered a second home win inside four days after coming from behind to beat play-offs hopefuls Farsley Celtic.

Carl Macauley’s men haven’t moved up the table from 14th despite collecting maximum points from their past two games, but could overtake sides ahead of them if they extend that sequence to three matches by beating Droylsden at the weekend.

They began brightly, and Tom Schofield’s header prompted visiting goalkeeper Tom Taylor to make a save inside the first five minutes.

Hopley fired high after Danny Andrews’ attempt was deflected his way, while at the other end Jordan Deacey went close from Lewis Nightingale’s assist.

Hopley had a goal ruled out for offside before Farsley took the lead when Leon Osborne fired low past Danny Roberts after Albion failed to clear.

Deacey almost doubled their advantage before half-time when his shot flashed past an upright.

Witton drew level early in the second period when Jeff King despatched a loose ball that a defender diverted into his path from Andrews’ set piece.

Carl Peers and substitute Alex Titchiner sent efforts off-target before Albion were awarded a penalty when Chris Howarth fouled Toby Mullarkey.

Andrews, as he had done against Scarborough on Saturday, kept calm to convert.

The wide man has now scored 21 goals this season.

His side are two points adrift of a position in the standings’ top half, while Farsley’s hopes of making the top five appear faint with a 10-point gap to close in their remaining seven games.
