1874 NORTHWICH’S newly-formed under 21s team will play home matches in the town next season.

They will host opponents at Moss Farm after joining the Cheshire County FA League’s second tier – the competition’s grassroots division.

“One of the club’s objectives is to develop a strategy to create junior and women’s teams,” said Alex Dickinson, board member responsible for youth development.

“This is the first stage in that plan.

“Under 21s football is an area that is under-represented locally and nationally, a fact recognised by the Cheshire County FA who set up the league last season.”

Josh Hoare, an FA-qualified coach, will manage the 1874 Northwich team along with father, Alan.

Dickinson will act as secretary.

He added: “The creation of an under 12s team will provide an opportunity for boys within that age group to continue making progress with their football.

“After that, they perhaps will move into the adult game.”

1874 have received a Grow the Game grant of £1,500.

Administered by the Football Foundation, the scheme assists with fees and administrative costs associated with establishing a new team.
