Match pointers

1874 NORTHWICH celebrate the second anniversary of the club’s formation at home to Nelson, promoted at the end of last season as Division One champions.

The hosts, 14 points adrift of leaders Runcorn Linnets, will attempt to extend an unbeaten sequence in the Premier Division to 14 matches.

They have won 11 of their past 13 league games, drawing two.

Only Glossop North End have scored more points in the past half a dozen fixtures.

For the first time this season, management team Ian Street and Paul Bowyer have a full squad to pick from with attacker Stuart Wellstead pushing for a starting place after scoring a hat-trick in Tuesday’s Mid Cheshire FA Senior Cup success.

Visitors Nelson won home and away against 1874 Northwich last season, including a 3-1 success at Barton Stadium in front of a near 400-strong crowd.

Peter Wright, leading marksman this time around with 14 goals, scored in both games.

The Admirals will be boosted by the return from suspension of influential midfielder Danny Mahoney, but defender George Melling is ruled out with a knee injury.

They won only one of their first five league matches at the start of the campaign, but have climbed to sixth place in the standings after securing victories in five of their past six.
