TONY Sullivan said he felt let down following Witton Albion’s latest defeat on Saturday, a game he said beforehand they could not afford to lose.

They did, a 3-1 reverse against Grantham their tenth of a risible run of results.

“If things don’t change quickly we’re in serious trouble,” he said afterwards.

“The players have left me up the proverbial creek without a paddle with that performance. I can’t defend it.

“It was a six-pointer, and we’ve not performed.

“We thought we’d turned a corner following the games against Skem and Curzon Ashton last weekend. Perhaps they felt they just had to turn up.

“Well, they can’t.

“The pressure is mounting now; I was brought here to turn things around.”

Michael Koral’s first league goal for the club cancelled out Alex Simmon’s opener for the visitors before the break, but it did not spur his side.

Instead, they conceded twice from set pieces in the second half to suffer a fifth successive home defeat.

Sullivan said: “Grantham got quality into our box, whipping in crosses with power and pace.

“Yet from the same position we float a ball into their area.

“We’re not scoring, but I can’t blame the forwards if they don’t have any service.

“Teams are pinning us inside our own half, putting us on the back foot.

“That’s draining, because we’re constantly defending.

“We’re more organised than before because we’re not conceding as many goals. But there’s a mental block.

“I’ve got to bring in some winners, lads who can go straight into the team and change its mentality because right now we’re too easy to beat.”

Witton sit next to bottom in the table, a single point better off than back-markers Belper following their 2-1 win against Curzon Ashton.

A trip to Halesowen in midweek awaits.
