1874 NORTHWICH will be desperate for history not to repeat itself when they turn their attention to the FA Vase on Sunday.

Oldham Boro were their conquerors at the same stage of last season’s edition – the newly-formed club’s debut – when they progressed after extra time.

After bowing out of the FA cup following a replay at Prescot in midweek, Ian Street’s men have an even greater incentive to progress.

The visitors will be forced to make changes though, with first choice front pair Mike Brandon and Matthew Beadle away on holiday.

Danny Thomas is working, while Mike Aston is injured.

Northwich could field at least one new face after defender Callum Jones agreed a month-loan loan from Northern Premier League club Trafford.

Street is hopeful of signing others before Sunday.

Hosts Oldham have started the campaign slowly, winning only one of seven matches in Division One.

They have conceded 15 goals in their past four league games too, including five in a home hammering by 1874’s neighbours Barnton last weekend.

Manager Tony Mills described his team’s performance afterwards as one of the ‘worst I’ve seen in many a year’.

However Boro can take heart from their results record against Northwich last term, including a 1-1 draw in a campaign curtain-raiser.
