BRIAN Pritchard, the Witton Albion manager, warned he will not get carried away after watching his team beat Telford in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Captain Michael Powell scored twice, while Danny Andrews claimed the other goal, in a convincing 3-1 victory at Wincham Park.

“People will read that we’ve won against a Conference club and make note,” said Pritchard.

“Obviously I’m happy, both with the result and the performance.

“I’m happier still when I measure how much of an improvement it was on our performance at Runcorn [on Tuesday night].

“Pretty much every player was better against Telford than they were then, and at this stage of our preparation that’s the most important thing.”

Albion led 3-0 inside 47 minutes after dominating during the early exchanges.

Andrews and Powell both punished hesitation in the Bucks’ defence before the latter steered in the goal of the game with his head from Anthony Gardner’s cross.

New recruit Sam Barnes played the whole match in the centre of defence while another summer signing, Iain Howard, featured for the first hour.

Former Colwyn Bay duo Chris Sanna and Mike Lea were unavailable, while front man Mike Koral was ruled out by an injury.

Witton will resume their pre-season programme at home to another Football Conference National club, Chester, next Saturday, kick off 3pm.
