Witton Albion 2 Rushall Olympic 4
WITTON slumped to another home defeat, taking to eight the tally of goals they have conceded in the past two league matches at Wincham Park.
And Albion were lucky they did not ship any more on an afternoon to forget.
Like Trafford last week, Rushall were grateful recipients of a gift from the hosts’ defence after seven minutes, when Christian Dacres intercepted a pass sent without care across the pitch.
He clipped a pass into James Spencer’s path, and the front man chipped a smart finish past goalkeeper Matt Cooper.
Albion rallied at least, restoring parity when Josh Hancock thumped a low drive in off an upright from Scott Bakkor’s assist.
It marked a 50th goal for the winger in Witton’s colours.
Witton’s best spell followed, with Alex Titchiner’s drilled attempt forcing custodian Liam Maher to parry at his near post.
Gavin Caines reacted quickly to smuggle the rebounded ball away from Bakkor.
At the other end, Anthony Sheehan cleared from on the line when Josh Craddock climbed highest to meet James Dance’s corner.
Brian Pritchard’s men went ahead on 36 minutes following their most fluid movement.
Hancock combined with Bakkor on the right to cut out ex-Albion full back Mathew Wood, the latter supplying a pass for Danny Andrews to shoot with power past defenders and goalkeeper blocking his path.
Their lead lasted four minutes, substitute Stan Mugisha making it 2-2 when curving a perfectly-placed finish into an unguarded net from an acute angle after charging down Cooper’s attempt to clear.
Mugisha’s pace proved too much for Witton’s defence, made up of three full backs following Rob Bodie’s enforced exit with an injury, in the second half.
Cooper clawed his first attempt to safety, but watched and admired with everybody else when Dance’s whipped effort crashed off a post.
Spencer fired in Rushall’s third goal when Albion’s net-minder failed to tame a cross, turning provider for Mugisha with nine minutes left.
The front man scorched clear before finishing emphatically.
