BRIAN Pritchard excused his players’ slow start after they overturned an interval deficit to beat Whitby Town comfortably yesterday, Saturday.

Witton scored three times in a dominant second half display to extend a sequence without defeat in the Premier Division to five matches.

They had trailed to Craig Farrell’s goal for the Seasiders.

“I think too many individuals expected an easy game,” said Pritchard afterwards.

“We never got going and rarely reached a position from which we could do them some damage. It was no surprise when they scored; it had been coming.

“I was calm at half time though, and asked the players to remember what they have done well in the past few games. The starting point for that was to work harder.”

Danny Andrews’ leveller was followed quickly by Alex Titchiner’s fourth goal since returning to the club.

Substitute Jon Dawson added gloss with an expertly-taken effort six minutes before the final whistle.

Pritchard added: “Jon did well again and should be proud of what he’s achieved in his time here.

“It’s easy to forget that he was playing in the Cheshire League last season, but he’s taken his opportunity to step up to a higher level. I was made up to see him score.

“I’m happy that the result reflects our performance in the second half.

“It settled us to score soon after the break, and probably should have scored a few more than we did.”

Witton’s latest win moves them to within two points of a position of safety in the Premier Division table ahead of a trip to play-offs hopefuls Skelmersdale United on Tuesday.
