Witton Albion score biggest league win in almost a year against rock-bottom Droylsden
WITTON made safe the points inside 10 minutes, condemning Droylsden to another game without victory.
Brian Pritchard’s men scored three times in that period, Josh Hancock lifting the first goal into an empty net after goalkeeper Danny Taberner made a mess of an attempted clearance.
A second followed on six minutes, Anthony Sheehan splitting the visitors’ defence to send clear Dave Walker who finished emphatically.
When Kyle Wilson steered in soon afterwards, this time after Matt Cooper’s long ball had picked out Danny Andrews, Albion had safely extended their own unbeaten sequence to five games in league and cup.
The rest of the half was used by the hosts to practice their shooting, Ally Brown going closest when his attempt hit the crossbar.
Taberner kept out Hancock’s free kick too.
Witton added to their lead early in the second half, Sheehan’s set piece dropping kindly for Hancock who doubled his personal tally.
Wilson matches the wide man’s feat on 68 minutes, again after Sheehan had assisted.
The former Nantwich Town front man’s initial touch to control took him away from a Droylsden back-marker, before he slotted coolly past Taberner with his next one.
Well beaten, the Bloods were at least consoled when substitute Domingos Silveiro intercepted Marc Joseph’s sloppy pass to score.
The visitors, already with five players cautioned, were reduced to 10 men when new recruit Valter Fernandes was booked for a second time in the closing stages.
For Witton, this was their biggest league win since a 5-0 thrashing of Frickley last November.
