PAUL Booth has brought an end to his second spell at Witton by joining Curzon Ashton, the side pipped by Albion to promotion last season.

And the defender could quickly come face-to-face with his now former club on Wednesday, when the teams meet in the Doodson Sport Cup last eight.

Booth, 26, has not featured for Witton since a 3-3 draw at Stocksbridge in January.

“I hope he goes on to do well,” said Albion manager Brian Pritchard.

“We were aware that Curzon were interested as they sent us a notice of approach. They had to, for he was still registered to play for us.”

Booth lost his place in the team following the arrival of Danny Meadowcroft from Colwyn Bay.

He was left out of the starting line-up for Witton’s defeat against leaders North Ferriby United at Wincham Park last month, after which he announced his departure on internet social networking site, Twitter.

Pritchard said: “I’ve had no contact from the player since. He made a decision to leave, which we found out about on the internet.

“Paul did not tell me, which is sad because he’s done a lot for this football club, playing a big part in what we achieved last year.

“I felt that we needed a change, and made a choice in what I felt was in Witton Albion’s best interests.

“Sometimes those decisions are difficult and will not make me popular, but they are vital for us to improve.”
