FANS of 1874 Northwich pick the new club’s colours at a meeting later this week.

Supporters will vote for one of eight options each for a home and away strip that players will wear when the team starts to play competitive matches later this year.

“There has been much debate on this and clearly not all fans will be happy with the final choice,” said chairman Paul Stockton.

“But we must make progress; this is the best way of doing so.”

The shortlist was made by supporters chosen at random by the board.

Green, the colour most closely associated with Northwich Victoria – the club that members of the newly-formed 1874 Trust used to call their favourite – features in five of the choices for home kit.

Mr Stockton said: “We have taken advice from some other clubs, from potential suppliers and from our laundry man.

“We will also take into account criteria such as availability, quality and also price when deciding where to order kits, both for players’ and replica shirts.”

At the meeting, which takes place at Lostock Sports and Social Club on Thursday, will be a ballot on whether 1874 Northwich needs a motto.

Supporters can vote against adopting one if they wish.

Those present will also be asked to ratify a motion, backed by members at a special general meeting last month, to amend the group’s rules to reflect the fact it no longer backs Vics.

Once complete, fans will have their membership transferred to a new body called Northwich Football Club which will trade as 1874 Northwich.

All votes, for both kit and motto, must be sent to the board by this Wednesday for those members not attending the meeting, which starts at 7.30pm.

The results will be announced on the night.
