WINSFORD CC are celebrating winning the Division C title.

Mike Lancaster's men will now take their place in Division B next term after claiming the win they needed on the final day of the season.

And youngster Craig Webb took most of the plaudits.

The teenage spinner came on to devastating effect as Pott Shrigley were threatening to amass a demanding total.

He finished with figures of 4-45.

Pott Shrigley's innings had got off to the perfect start, with runs coming freely as the opening pair shared 66.

Dave Etchells made the vital breakthough and, in tandem with Webb, proceeded to apply vice-like pressure on the Potts batsmen.

They proved unable to cope.

Wickets fell regularly as the pair gave little away, Etchells posting 3-26 from his 15 overs as Potts finished on a modest 138.

In reply Winsford started well, with the first wicket falling on 45.

They wobbled briefly at 71-3 but, when club chairman Andy Cooper joined Gareth Whitney at the crease, the experienced duo were able to guide their team to victory.

Cooper finished unbeaten on 36, while Whitney helped himself to 30 as Winsford reached their target with 13 overs to spare.

The Prostate Cancer Support man of the match was Craig Webb.

Afterwards club secretary and second team regular Mark Nicholas was thrilled.

He said: "This achievement is testament to the club's policy of developing homegrown talent."

Craig Webb, James Dean, Kurt Davies and Andrew Washington were all key player in the title-winning team.
